Surah Al Maarij

Quran Chapter 70

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

A questioner asked for a punishment bound to happen.

For the unbelievers, there is none to avert it.

From God, the Lord of the ascending pathways.

The angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him, on a Day that spans fifty thousand years.

So, be patient with a beautiful patience.

They perceive it as far off.

But We see it as near.

On that Day, the sky will resemble molten copper.

And the mountains will appear like tufts of wool.

No friend will ask of a friend.

Although they will be shown to each other, the criminal would wish to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by offering his children.

And his girlfriend and his brother.

And his family that sheltered him.

And all the people on earth, if it would only save him.

No indeed! It is a blazing flame.

Stripping away the scalps.

Calling those who turned their backs and fled.

And hoarded and stored away.

Man was created anxious.

Agitated when misfortune touches him.

And tight-fisted when good reaches him.

Except for those who pray.

Who remain constant in their prayers.

And in whose wealth is a known right.

For the asker and the deprived.

And those who affirm the Day of Judgment.

And those who fear their Lord’s punishment.

Their Lord’s punishment isn’t to be underestimated.

And those who guard their purity.

Except for their spouses and those they rightfully possess, for then they are not to be blamed.

But those who seek anything beyond that are the trespassers.

And those who keep to their trusts and promises.

And those who stand by their testimonies.

And those who are diligent in their prayers.

These will be in Gardens, honored.

So, why do these unbelievers rush headlong towards you, from every direction?

From the right and from the left, in droves?

Does each one of them aspire to be admitted into a Garden of Bliss?

No indeed! We created them from what they know.

By the Lord of the sunrises and the sunsets, We are Able.

To replace them with others better than them. We are not overtaken.

So, let them indulge and play until they encounter their promised Day.

The Day they will rush out from the graves, as if they were racing towards a goal post.

Their eyes will be humbled, humiliation will overshadow them. This is the Day they were promised.
